Families across Uvalde County are invited to have fun while learning to stay safe  

Uvalde, TX, May 21, 2024 – Families with children of all ages are invited to kick off the summer with skills to stay safe while having fun with the emergency air medical crew from AirLIFE Uvalde. On Thursday, May 30, AirLIFE Uvalde is hosting the first-ever Summer Safety and Blood Drive event from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the ballroom and parking lot at Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC), 2401 Garner Field Road, in Uvalde.  

Attendees will learn about water safety, controlling bleeding, and injury prevention. Attendees over the age of 17 are also encouraged to donate blood or platelets with South Texas Blood and Tissue while at the event. The blood drive will be held in La Forge Hall at SWTJC and the Platelet Bus will be in the parking lot. 

“We are excited to bring these important skills to the families of Uvalde County in a fun setting that is engaging for all ages,” said AirLIFE Uvalde Flight Nurse Abbey Daigle. “It is also a great opportunity to help others in our community by donating blood, which is a valuable, life-saving resource in very short supply.” 

The event is free and open to all families. Those willing to donate blood or platelets are encouraged to pre-register with South Texas Blood and Tissue to reserve a donation time. Blood donations can be scheduled here, and platelet donations can be scheduled here.
